Shoot Beautiful Landscapes Downeast

As the first National Park east of the Mississippi, Acadia National Park’s rugged coast, impressive vistas, beautiful Lighthouses, and working fishing villages have long attracted visitors from all over the globe.

In true fashion to all of our workshops, this Acadia experience will take you to places most other workshops don’t even know about. Yes, we will visit some of the most iconic locations, but you will also get to see side of Acadia that only the locals know. We will work hard in the early mornings and late afternoon and evening, to maximize our use of the best light. And of course, we'll find compelling scenes to shoot during the daytime as well!

We have chosen these dates very carefully to not only maximize our chances that the fall colors will be at their best, but also to avoid the heavy tourist season. We’ve limited the number of participants in order to keep the group small and intimate. The workshop is limited to eight participants. You can expect instruction on shooting techniques such as bracketing for natural-looking HDR, Panoramas, black and white, and more. We will have a new moon, so If the skies are clear at night, we’ll make time to shoot the stars!

We will be staying in Bar Harbor, giving us access to some of the best food in Maine. The waterfront is just a short walk away.

Great flexibility on the part of the leadership, knowledge of locations to photograph and interaction with the participants. Having Michael Strickland along on the workshop was a real bonus for me.

Itinerary and Details

October 7, 2018: Arrive in Bar Harbor Maine. We'll meet at 2:00 pm in the lobby of our hotel, for introductions, and brief run-through of the workshop. And then we're off for our first shoot.

October 7–11, 2018: We have multiple sites planned for each sunrise and sunset shooting location, with plenty of additional shooting on either side of the golden hour. We will adjust our planned schedule based on weather and other factors. Expect to be on our way most mornings by 5:00–5:30 am, back for breakfast around 9:00 am. Midday activities will be a mixture of daytime shooting, opportunities for short hikes, image reviews and critiques, and of course some downtime. We usually are heading out at around 3:00 pm for our afternoon/evening shooting session.

Meals: we will have breakfast and dinner each day as a group, and this is included. Lunch is on your own if you want it, or it might be just some energy bars and fruit or a small snack that we'll have while we're out shooting.
