Majestic Lakes and Mountain Landscapes

Join Muench Workshops co-founder Andy Williams and pro Noel Rogers as they journey to one of the planet’s most beautiful places—the Canadian Rockies. The Canadian Rockies mountain range spans the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, and is characterized by jagged, ice-capped peaks, alpine lakes, and diverse wildlife. On this eight day workshop, we’ll photograph mountain peaks bathed in lovely high latitude light, colorful larch trees reflected in alpine lakes, and perhaps even some of the region’s abundant wildlife. We’ll be shooting at sunrise, sunset, and all day long. And after dinner, clear skies permitting, we’ll head out again to capture the beauty of Mount Assiniboine by moonlight, and perhaps even the green glow of the aurora! We’ll be staying first at Mount Assiniboine Lodge—accessed by a breathtaking helicopter ride—where we have four days and nights to explore and photograph. We’ll then move to Kananaskis Lodge, in Kananaskis Provincial Park, for two nights, where we have more lovely locations selected for you. Expect intensive instruction in the field, as well as our signature image reviews and Adobe Lightroom sessions.

The Rockies are a Muench Workshops Passion!

We have a life-long love affair with the Rockies. Marc Muench puts it best in his book “The Rockies,” co-written with his father David Muench: “Enter into the wild and energetic landscape that is the Rocky Mountains, the most emphatic geology in North America. It is the center image of our continent—elevated to its full height. One is brought to a keen sense of the original and pristine earth, and nothing is as exhilarating as standing on or in front of its peaks at dawn or evening and witnessing the world’s slow, but persistent spinning in the universe.”

We would like to guide you towards this kind of experience on this workshop.

Absolutely fantastic! Assiniboine takes your breath away with its backcountry, remote, rugged beauty. The photography opportunities are incredible because of the amazing landscape. Photos at every turn! I think we’ve been changed forever. I was concerned about the level of hiking, but we did it. It is a physical trip. We loved Noel and Michael and hope to take workshops with them again. Their passion for photography, expertise, guidance, and teaching us not only how to take better photos but how to better process them was fantastic. And of course they knew exactly where to get the best photos. I learned so much this trip and had such an amazing time.

All the “above and beyond” effort that Muench puts into making sure every detail is covered and everyone feels special, as well as putting us in the right place at the right time for photography, makes every adventure worth every penny. You guys always put your heart and soul into these trips, and it shows–I can’t wait for more adventures!

September 23, 2020: After breakfast, we’ll make our way to the helicopter pad outside of Canmore. Our flight is scheduled to depart at approximately 12:30 PM, and 15 minutes later, we’ll arrive at Assiniboine Lodge. Take a moment to read the history of the lodge here.

September 24–26, 2020: Sunrise to sunset photography in the vicinity of Assiniboine Lodge. There will be plenty of opportunities for day hikes if you like. At night, with clear skies, we’ll shoot the moonlit Mt. September 27, 2020: After breakfast, we’ll depart Assiniboine Lodge by helicopter, and make our way out to the day’s shooting location. We have numerous spots planned but we’ll keep the itinerary flexible so we can take local conditions into consideration. We will also make time for more image reviews, critiques, and post-processing. Overnight tonight at Kananaskis Lodge in the heart of Kananaskis Provincial Park.

September 28, 2020: Sunrise through sunset shoots at location TBD based on local conditions.

September 29, 2020: After a morning shoot and breakfast, the workshop concludes and we will drive you to the Calgary airport. Flights home can be scheduled for anytime after 1:00 PM today.
