Landscapes, Seascapes and Wildlife Down Under!
Our Australia workshop will inspire and thrill you as you visit some of Oz’ most stunning locations: The Great Ocean Road’s 12 Apostles and Kangaroo Island. We’ll photograph the 12 Apostles, London Bridge, The Otway Ranges, Gibson’s Steps, Loch Ard George and more. On Kangaroo Island we’ll spend nearly a week photographing some of Australia’s most awesome wildlife and award winning beaches. The island boasts unique wildlife including seals, koalas, wallabies, echidnas, and much more. Wildlife, sand dunes, ochre cliffs, lighthouses, the Remarkable Rocks and quaint coves are what make Kangaroo Island so appealing to outdoor photographers!
Everything is all-inclusive: lodging, transportation, meals, parks passes, boat charters, treetop adventures, and photographic guiding and instruction. Learn from two pros, Marc Muench, and our local pro and guide, Pete Dobré. You will be inspired as we personally pass on our knowledge of photography and techniques in capturing the best of Australia’s landscapes, seascapes, and wildlife.
This workshop caters for all levels of experience from hobbyists and beginners to advanced photographers. With a guest to instructor ratio of 3:1, you will be guaranteed plenty of personal time and assistance throughout the workshop, not only in the field shooting, but in the classroom reviewing and processing images. See you in Oz!
Australia's South Coast
February 5–24, 2018
Itinerary and General information
Keep in mind this is a general description of where we‘ll be going and what we hope and expect to shoot. But we ALWAYS chase the light, and so this is all subject to change based on light, weather and what we feel is best!
February 5, 2018: Arrivals in Melbourne, Australia. We’ll meet for a group dinner this evening and get fired up for our adventure!
February 6-16, 2018: Traveling along the Great Ocean Road to the 12 Apostles is a wonderful road trip in itself. We pass through quaint small towns taking in panoramic views of the coast with the iconic lighthouse that was used in an Australian TV series for kids a number of years ago. Our first stop the town of Apollo Bay, where we will be exploring the Otway Ranges where the rainforest meets the sea.
Some of the sights that we will be visiting are: Beauchamp Falls, Stevensons Falls, Hopetown falls along with Maits Rest. Maits Rest is a gentle introduction to the rainforest and this is an outstanding area to explore the world of macro photography, as there is so much to photograph there from ferns to fungi. We will be exploring the tree top walk, which will give you a great, sweeping view across the rainforest, and the views looking down are breathtaking as well!
We blaze the trail to Port Campbell National Park where we will be concentrating on seascapes. The 12 Apostles are sea stacks that rise out of the water. We will be photographing the Apostles from several vantage points and also from the beach. This view on the beach is impressive and will leave you in awe. Other areas that will be photographed during our time here are London Bridge, The Arch, the Razorback, Bakers Oven, The Grotto, Loch Arch gorge and, if time permits, the Bay of Martyrs.
You will be taken to a very secret spot known to us and locals, but is devoid of crowds. Pete calls this Australia, and you'll see why! These are sea stacks that rise from the water and these are best shot in the morning light and afternoon light.
February 16, 2018: We'll have an afternoon and evening breather, in our hotel in Adelaide.
February 17-23, 2018: From Adelaide we blaze it to Kangaroo Island (ferry ride) and once on Kangaroo Island you will fall in love with Australia's third largest Island which is 150kms long and 40kms at its wildest point. Only 3,500 people live on the Island. Once there, you will be shooting two lighthouses, tranquil beaches and coves, and wildlife as it passes in front of us from kangaroos to koalas. Little Sahara is a small sand dune system on the Island, which offers great photographic opportunities. Youll also have a chance to photograph the iconic rocks called the ”Remarkable Rocks”. These are stunning and so different to what you have ever seen before. You will shoot several sunrises there as you will be blown away by the magic of sunrise at Remarkable Rocks. Coves and rugged coastlines are the order of the day.
At Seal Bay we hire out the entire beach at twilight as we photograph the Seals in awesome light. Not to mention the pelican feeding where you will get an amazing chance to be up close and personal with many Australian Pelicans and their distinct black and white stripes, make them stunning subjects to shoot.
Have you ever swum with the dolphins? We do an amazing boat trip with the dolphins where you can swim with them if you wish to and you'll have an amazing opportunity to photograph the dolphins, as they become airborne in the wake of the boat.
We take in the birds of prey show on the island and you get to have your private viewing and portrait session with some of the birds, which are stunning.
February 23, 2018: We take the ferry back to Adelaide, and we'll have a farewell dinner to celebrate the amazing images and friendships made, and the great times had in Australia.
February 24, 2018: Flights home or elsewhere from Adelaide anytime this day.
