Adirondack Fall Foliage
October 2 – 8, 2024
Caddo Lake has an otherworldly quality to it. Majestic bald cypress trees rise from tannin-stained waters with crowns draped in Spanish moss. Their needles turn red and orange in autumn, lending fiery color to the otherwise muted landscape. Fog swirls around the broad cypress trunks and rises among their branches. Wildlife thrives in these quiet forests, including abundant species of birds. With luck, we may even see an alligator!
The Caddo Lake ecosystem provides plenty of photographic opportunities as a protected wetland area and home to one of the world’s most extensive flooded cypress forests. We’ll be shooting from special flat-bottomed boats, allowing us an intimate perspective of the trees and getting us close to wildlife. Along the way, you will learn to use a variety of focal lengths and perspectives to create compelling images of this unique environment. From grand landscapes to small intimate scenes, Caddo Lake has it all!
We’ll stay at comfortable local hotels and shoot at sunrise and sundown. We’ll be conducting classroom learning on Lightroom and holding our signature image review sessions when not in the field. Join us in the magical flooded bayou!

November 3, 2024: Arrive at the airport in Shreveport, Louisiana, no later than 11:00 AM. We will meet you there and then transport you to our hotel in nearby Marshall, Texas. After a quick orientation, we will head out onto the water for our first afternoon and sunset shooting session!
November 4–7, 2024: We will spend every sunrise on the water shooting the mysterious cypress trees as they appear from the mist. Always have a long lens at the ready because wildlife sightings are frequent, and you won’t want to miss a shot! In the afternoons, you can count on us hitting the water again to take advantage of the dramatic light as it streams through the trees and turns the Spanish moss to gold. We’ll have our signature image reviews in the evenings and during other downtimes. During one of these days, we will also have a very long post-processing and feedback session.
November 7, 2024: On our final day, we will have our last sunrise session on the water, where we will hunt for stunning and colorful cypress trees. After packing up, we will return to Shreveport by noon for your departure.
Easy: You must be able to get in and out of small boats for our shooting sessions, which can be a few hours in length.
