Majestic Lakes and Mountain Landscapes
UPDATE: As of October 29, 2018 this workshop is sold out. Please contact us to be placed on the waiting list.
Mount Assiniboine is a stunningly beautiful, exquisitely rustic setting that is accessible by foot or helicopter only. The scenic helicopter ride in is the perfect entry to our time at this exclusive location.
We’ll photograph majestic mountain peaks in the sweet light, the brilliant colors of the larch trees, and capture their reflections in the crystal clear lakes. We’ll shoot sunrise, sunset, and all day long. And after dinner, with clear skies, we’ll capture the beauty of Assiniboine in moonlight, and under the stars. We’ll be working with you on the art of seeing, better compositions, shooting panoramas, HDR, and even long exposures for silky-smooth water and dramatic skies.
When we come down from Mount Assiniboine, we’ll photograph the lakes, mountains, streams, and wildlife in the heart of Kananaskis country. Here we’ll have image reviews and critiques, furthering our composition and image-processing skills.
Everything’s all-inclusive: meals, transportation, double occupancy lodging (single available, excluding the Assiniboine Lodge), and photographic instruction and guiding from two pros.
We have a life-long love affair with the Rockies. In their book, “The Rockies,” Marc and David Muench put it best:
“Enter into the wild and energetic landscape that is the Rocky Mountains, the most emphatic geology in North America. It is the center image of our continent—elevated to its full height. One is brought to a keen sense of the original and pristine earth, and nothing is as exhilarating as standing on or in front of its peaks at dawn or evening and witnessing the world’s slow, but persistent spinning in the universe.”
This exclusive workshop is not offered anywhere else, and it sells out year after year. Join us for the experience of a lifetime.
September 17–24, 2019
Itinerary and General Information
NOTE: This itinerary is subject to change based on accommodations availability, weather and other local conditions.
September 17, 2019: Fly to Calgary. You will then take a shuttle service (90 min) from Calgary Airport to Canmore, arriving at our hotel, Blackstone Lodge this afternoon. We will send information about the shuttle service. Workshop commences with a group dinner this evening.
September 18, 2019: After breakfast, we’ll take the beautiful drive to the helicopter pad outside of Canmore. We have a flight at approximately 12:30 PM, a very short helicopter ride (15 min) up to Assiniboine Lodge. You can read the history of this amazing lodge in British Columbia here.
September 18–22, 2019: We have four nights at Assiniboine Lodge. We’ll shoot every day sunrise and sunset, with other shooting opportunities during the day. There will be options for day hikes if you like. At night, with clear skies, we’ll shoot the moonlit Mt. Assiniboine and with a lot of luck, possibly the glow of the aurora. We will have image review sessions as time allows and we’ll also be teaching some of our post-processing tips and techniques.
September 22–24, 2019: We’ll fly down from Assiniboine Lodge after breakfast on the 24th, and then we’ll begin shooting in other areas in the Canadian Rockies. We have numerous spots planned but we’ll keep the itinerary flexible so we can do the right thing based on local conditions. We’ll be based at Kananaskis Lodge in the heart of Kananaskis Provincial Park. Again, we’ll make sure we’re in the right spots for sunrise and sunset light! We will feature more image reviews, critique, and post-processing.
September 24, 2019: After morning shoot and breakfast, we will drive you to Calgary airport. Flights home can be for anytime after 1:00 PM.
Note on Assiniboine Lodge: All lodging here is on a shared basis, with two to a cabin. All of the accommodations have shared shower and bathroom facilities that are not in the cabins.
