Glaciated Mountains, Reflecting Lakes, Fall Colors
Kananaskis Country is an area of exceptional beauty where we’ll photograph jagged mountains towering over glaciated ponds and lakes, and valleys filled with trees turning all shades of colors. You'll learn many landscape photography techniques with attention to composition, the art of seeing, and even topics like focus stacking, maximizing dynamic range, and color accuracy. We've designed this workshop to take advantage of a scenic setting for both photography and post processing. After four days of intense field work, we'll spend the majority of the last two days in a classroom-style setting to dive deep into post processing and improve your editing skills while it's all fresh in your mind. On the last two days we won't miss sunrise or sunset either, as there are great locations very close to the lodge. You will come away with inspiring techniques to help you see amazing images. You will grow your compositional vocabulary in ways that help you become more selective when faced with capturing nature in a meaningful way.
This workshop pairs perfectly with our Canadian Rockies Workshop, September 17–24, 2019.
For this workshop we proudly work with our Canadian licensed guide and pro, Noel Rogers and Bow Valley Photography in Canmore, Alberta.

Itinerary and General Information
September 25, 2019: Arrive in Calgary, Alberta by 2:00 PM, or earlier. We will have shuttle information for you to take you from Calgary Airport to Engadine Lodge. We’ll have afternoon tea while we gather, and then head out to shoot the sunset, followed by dinner at the Lodge.
September 26–28, 2019: We’ll be based out of Mount Engadine Lodge, and exploring the beautiful surroundings. Sunrise and sunset and all times between will find us at local lakes, meadows, cascading streams, and more. We will visit many of the great locations in the area including: Spray Lake, Mud Lake, Hogarth Lakes, Burstall Lakes, and Karst Spring. We’ll be photographing landscapes, but always on the lookout for local wildlife, including moose, bighorn sheep, bears, and more. We’ll be enjoying breakfast in dinner in the lodge, and often packing our lunches to enjoy in the beauty of the mountains. These three days will be filled with photography in the field to prepare you for some editing time while we stay at the Kananaskis Lodge the following days.
September 28–September 30, 2019: On the morning of September 28, we depart from Mount Engadine Lodge, and drive the scenic route to the Kananaskis Lodge to explore the other side of the park. We’ll be shooting locations such as Wedge Pond, Elbow Lake, aspen groves, and much more. We’ll continue with our Lightroom sessions and image critiques, as we do a deep dive into composition, image processing, and self-critique. It’s amazing how much you can learn not only by having your own images critiqued, but by actively participating in the critique of other participants images.
October 1, 2019: After sunrise shoot and breakfast, we check out of Kananaskis Lodge and head back to Calgary for flights home anytime after 2:00 PM.
