Steep Mountains, Pristine Alpine Lakes & Amazing Wilderness in Wyoming
Wyoming's Popo Agie Wilderness is located in the heart of the Wind River Mountains, where countless jagged peaks surround alpine lakes in every direction. Join Muench Workshops co-founder Marc Muench and pro Michael Strickland on this wilderness photography shoot up high in the Cirque of The Towers. We've hired outfitters to set up the camp and cook for our group, giving us all the time we need to photograph. Our camp will be situated in the heart of the region, along the North Popo Agie River, where pictures can be created yards from your tent. Spend the afternoons learning landscape photography techniques such as focus stacking, shallow depth of field scenes, composition building and more. Learn to create stunning night landscapes with one of the darkest skies in the country.
The outfitters are experienced guides, and will match each person to one of their skilled trail horses for the long 15 mile ride to camp. Pack your camera gear in cases on the mules, and enjoy the ride. This is an amazing ride with views of the surrounding glaciated peaks and meandering streams through forested valleys. From camp there are many great locations easily accessible by short hikes. Each day we'll explore various alpine gardens, waterfalls, and lakes—all within a mile or two of camp. While in camp, there are many options to explore the small ponds reflecting the mountains and pines. Each person will be provided a private tent, sleeping pad and all the food they can eat. This will be spring time in the mountains, so fields of flowers will be possible throughout the valleys and hillsides surrounding camp.

Itinerary and General Information
July 19, 2018: Meet up at the Diamond 4 Ranch for an early dinner, last minute packing and briefing. This is a beautiful location at 8,000 feet in elevation, which is a great way to help our bodies acclimate for the camp which will be at 9,500 feet.
July 20, 2018: Begin the day early with a hot breakfast, and then an introduction to our horses and review of riding safety. We'll have sack lunches for the day and plenty of fresh mountain water. The ride takes most of the day with frequent stops. We plan on arriving into camp by 4:00 PM. Most of the supplies will be in camp, but everyone is expected to help setup the tents and fill water containers. Once settled into our private tents, we'll have time to make a brief walk to photograph sunset. Dinner will be under the stars around the warm glow of the campfire.
July 21–24, 2018: Each day will start well before sunrise with hot coffee and snacks. We'll walk to each different location mostly in the dark with headlamps, arriving to the sunrise location before the alpine glow begins. We'll plan for a big hot breakfast in camp following each morning shoot, followed by down time to get rested up for the afternoon hike. Lunch will be a variety of snacks and cold cuts for sandwiches. The afternoon hikes will begin at various times based on the location chosen. You will be required to walk to each location carrying your camera pack, water bladder or bottle, rain gear and snacks. Another hot and delicious meal will be prepared for dinner under the stars each night. On nights with clear skies, we will be visiting local tarns and small streams where pine trees reach high up to the stars, and create amazing images of the Milky Way.
July 24, 2018: On this final morning in camp, we'll enjoy the sunrise near camp over a favorite small lake. After another hot breakfast, well pack up and begin the 15 mile ride back to the Diamond 4 Ranch. This is a great day to enjoy the views from the saddle and look forward to a hot shower in town. Once back at the ranch, we'll pack up our vehicles and drive down into Lander to our hotel. Clean up and enjoy a enormous dinner with deserts!
July 25, 2018: Breakfast, then we meet for image review and post processing lessons. This is a very important time to review the images created during our time in the mountains. Marc and Michael will go over everyone's images, offering advice on composition, cropping and post processing. We'll break for lunch then review some of the latest techniques in Adobe Lightroom for making your final best images shine. At 3:00 PM depart for flights home from Lander.
