Greenland Eclipse Photography Workshop

The Best of East Greenland by Luxury Yacht

August 6 – 16, 2026

  • A once-in-a-lifetime eclipse; low in the sky behind towering icebergs
  • Intimate group of 12 with 2 pros, spacious ship deck for tripods
  • Over 50% chance of sunshine in August within Scoresby Sound

On August 12, a spectacular total solar eclipse will grace Scoresby Sund, Greenland, offering a remarkable opportunity to witness this celestial event in a breathtaking setting. With high chances of sunny skies and striking glaciers that deposit majestic icebergs into the bay, Scoresby Sund is an ideal location. The eclipse will occur in the evening, just as the sun reaches about 25 degrees above the horizon, perfectly aligning for stunning photography with the large icebergs.

This will be a nine-day journey aboard the luxurious expedition ship Polarfront, designed for an intimate experience. We’ll explore the captivating landscapes of Scoresby Sund, capturing the beauty of glaciers, mountains, and icebergs. After flying from Reykjavik, we’ll maximize our time in the fjords.

On our shore excursions, we’ll look for amazing landscapes, Arctic hares, and muskoxen. We’ll anchor in picturesque spots to photograph breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, utilizing tripods and filters alongside handheld techniques from the ship’s deck.

When not focused on photography or savoring fresh, gourmet meals—courtesy of our French ship’s cuisine—we’ll engage in image reviews and learn post-processing techniques. Bring your laptop to edit in the main salon or unwind with a favorite book and a hot cup of tea while sailing to our next location.

Expect to connect with a group of like-minded photographers eager to refine their skills and capture stunning shots. This expedition promises to enhance your “art of seeing” and elevate your landscape photography to new heights.

Itinerary

This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, and other factors.

August 6, 2026: Arrive in Reykjavik, Meet for Dinner, Discuss Adventure

Fly from your home and arrive in Reykjavik, Iceland, this day. We’ll meet for dinner, and talk about the adventure ahead.

August 7, 2026: Fly Reykjavik to Constable Point, Board Polarfront

Early this morning, we’ll take our flight from Reykjavik City airport (RKV) to Constable Point, Greenland. This is a specific flight for you to book, which we will tell you about. On arrival, we will board Polarfront as soon as we can.

August 8–14, 2026: Cruise East Greenland, Capture Total Solar Eclipse, Explore Føhnfjord

Aboard Polarfront, cruising the waterways of East Greenland’s Scoresby Sund. Here are some of the highlights of our cruising itinerary, the exact route will depend on sea, ice, and weather conditions:

  • We plan to position ourselves in an ideal location to capture images of the total eclipse of the sun on August 12. There is more than a 50% chance of sun this time of year within the Scoresby Sound. We will visit one of many locations we’ve been to in years past to line up the spectacular eclipse with the land or ice bergs. Totality will last 1 minute and 45 seconds.
  • The ship deck is large, offering everyone space to capture images of this spectacular event. Or we may go ashore!
  • Føhnfjord, with the basalt mountains of Gåseland on one side and the 2000 meter high granite cliffs of Milne Land on the other side. We will hopefully anchor in Harefjord where we can do some land explorations.
  • Øfjord, and then Jyttes Havn and Bear Islands where again we can possibly do some hikes on the land.

It is always possible to sight polar bears, but unlikely. We always recommend that everyone bring a 100-400mm lens just in case!

August 15, 2026: Return Flight to Reykjavik, Celebratory Dinner

We fly back to Iceland from Constable Point, Greenland, again on a specific flight that we will advise you to book. We’ll celebrate our expedition with an excellent meal tonight, and overnight at our hotel in Reykjavik.

August 16, 2026: Conclude Workshop, Depart from Keflavik Airport

Workshop concludes after breakfast. Flights home from Keflavik Airport (KEF) anytime today.

Every time I work with Muench Workshops I improve. I have attended workshops with other providers but they did not compare to Muench Workshops with the level of attention to detail provided and the consideration given to the attendees.

Behind the Scenes

Aboard the Polarfront

Our home for nine days and eight nights will be the M/V Polarfront. Built in Norway and chartered by the Norwegian state for most of her life, Polarfront is a regular in the Great North. A former weather and research ship for the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, she was completely refitted in 2015 as an expedition ship. Although she now flies the French flag, she's still particularly well suited to the ice-covered polar waters of Greenland. Polarfront is fully stabilized—unique for this kind of ship—making for smooth sailing and a very comfortable experience.

Everything about Polarfront is clean, fresh, new, and luxurious. The cabins are beautifully appointed, and the French cuisine is delicious. There are numerous deck areas from which to photograph, as well as two zodiacs. Accommodations on Polarfront consist of six double cabins ranging in size from 18 to 25 square meters, with en-suite bathrooms.

There are three types of Cabins aboard Polarfront:

Cabin 9: Owner's Suite. 25 square meters, Queen bed, additional sofa bed, sitting area, private bathroom.

Cabins 1, 2, 5: Grand Suites. These cabins can be set up with 2 Twins or 1 Double Bed. Sitting area, private bathroom.

Cabins 3 and 4: Deluxe Suites. These cabins can be set up with 2 Twins or 1 Double Bed. Sitting area, private bathroom.

Internal flightsWe will organize and book a flight from Reykjavik regional airport to Constable Point airstrip. This flight cost is dependant on what airlines are available on the days of our expedition. We will notify you of the cost as soon as we know it. We will all fly together on both flights to and from Constable Point.

Moderate: You must be able to get in and out of Zodiacs, and walk up to 2 miles on land.
