Amazing Landscapes and Night Skies
There’s a reason New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment! And there is no better time to be in New Mexico than the fall—warm days give way to cool nights, and the atmospheric conditions are ideal for photography.
Wayne Suggs has a singular style for capturing New Mexico’s natural wonders, and with his guidance, you will also create spectacular images. You’ll practice composition skills, and learn new techniques for lighting landscapes, resulting in images unlike anything you’ve shot before. We’ll also make time for our signature image reviews and post-processing instruction in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
We’ve timed our workshop to coincide with the ideal moon phase for night photography, allowing for perfectly illuminated landscapes beneath the Milky Way. At our inn beneath the cottonwoods, you can expect warm hospitality, delicious meals, and ready access to all of our photographic destinations.
Are you ready to visit the Land of Enchantment?
Abiquiu, New Mexico
October 1–4, 2021
Itinerary and General Information
October 1, 2021: Arrive in Abiquiu today by 4:00PM. At that time, we’ll meet on the front veranda of the Abiquiu Inn to get to know each other, and Wayne will review the itinerary with you, and review your camera settings. After dinner, we’ll head out for an evening shoot, where you’ll learn how to use low-level lighting techniques to illuminate the foreground of a landscape scene.
October 2, 2021: We’ll wake early this morning for a sunrise shoot, followed by breakfast and an image review. After the image review and lunch, we’ll depart on an afternoon visit to Red Rocks. Then, following sunset and dinner, we’ll have another evening session. Weather permitting, we’ll have an opportunity to shoot the Milky Way against dark skies.
October 3, 2021: This morning we’ll again wake early for a sunrise shoot along the Chama River, followed by breakfast and a second image review. We’ll return to the lodge in time for lunch, a little afternoon downtime, and an early dinner, followed by a sunset and—weather permitting—star shoot. This will be our best chance to capture the moonlit landscape with the Milky Way all in one exposure. Keep your fingers crossed for a clear night!
October 4, 2021: We’ll have a final sunrise shoot at a location TBD based on weather. After breakfast, the workshop concludes.
