Nordic Landscapes and Northern Lights
Come with us to the Norwegian Arctic Circle, and photograph the dramatic Lofoten Islands. Winter in the Lofoten Islands is a magical experience for any photographer, and is even better at night, when the northern lights curl in the sky, reflected on the mountains and the sea.
We’ll photograph jagged mountain peaks in and around Lofoten and Senja. Icy fjords and frozen lakes, rocky seacoasts, turquoise water, white sand beaches, rustic fishing villages, will be on display. If we’re lucky, and the weather is clear, we will be treated to some of the best northern lights on the planet.
We will teach techniques in high dynamic range shooting, panoramas, long exposures during the day (and night!), and star and aurora imagery. Photography is our priority, so expect to be out in the field plenty! We will also feature our much-loved image reviews, critiques, and post-processing instruction with Lightroom.
David Rosenthal will work together with Muench Workshops local pro and guide Cody Duncan to bring you a fantastic workshop experience. Cody has logged more days photographing along the northern coast of Norway than most anyone.
Sign up today and get ready for an other-worldly experience in Norway!

Itinerary and General Information
Our itinerary is planned—but we are always prepared to change things up, based on weather, and light conditions. Of course, at night we’ll be on watch for northern lights, and you can count on being awakened the instant we find them!

February 1–4, 2021: After breakfast, we’ll take the scenic drive up to our first base in the arctic, the quaint town of Mefjordvær. This little village is situated on the wild shores of the fjord surrounded by steep mountains and rugged ocean. We’ll take advantage of the fantastic low light of hours-long twilight and the beautiful quality of light. We’ll spend two full days exploring various regions around our hotel and in Ånderdalen National Park.
Accommodations in Mefjordvær: We have private cabins for everyone, with private facilities and baths.
February 4, 2021: We’ll leave early to make our way back to Tromsø for our flights south to our second arctic base, Leknes. Once we arrive in Leknes, we’ll check in to our new hotel and prepare for an evening shoot of the northern lights, based on conditions.
February 5, 2021: We’ll have the entire day to visit local beaches and a list of our favorite locations around the area. We’ll plan on being out looking for the best Aurora after dinner.

February 6–9, 2021: We’ll plan for another early sunrise, then after breakfast and check-out from our hotel, we’ll take another scenic drive further south to our third arctic base Sakrisøy. After another full day of low-light photography, if the skies are clear and the Northern lights come out, we stay up even longer! Some of our shooting locations will include for the next few days are:
Haukland and Utakleiv Beaches—Vestvågøya bright sand and crystal clear water make Haukland one of the most beautiful in Norway, and we’ll explore the rocks along the shore at Utakleiv.
