The Hasselblad Experience Brings You To Slovenia In Springtime

Experience a range of incredible photographic locations and experiment with a variety of photography techniques on this 10-day workshop led by Andy. With amazing photo ops all day and night, we’ll travel by comfortable minivan, stay in well-chosen high quality accommodations and eat wonderful food. Co-guiding this workshop will be amazing Slovenian photographer Luka Esenko. Co-sponsoring this workshop is Hasselblad, and all participants will get the opportunity to use the brand-new Hasselblad X1D-50C Mirrorless Medium Format digital cameras. We will have a complete system on hand with lenses for everyone! This will be an amazing opportunity to work in the field with this new and exciting camera system, and capturing beautiful, high resolution imagery.

Discover Slovenia and the Julian Alps with your camera in hand and capture stunning images of mountain landscapes, glacial lakes and rivers as well as scenes of every day life in traditional villages, the old walled city of Piran, and the historic city of Ljubljana.

Explore Lake Bled and its iconic church on Bled Island, starting with sunrise at the shore and ending with sunset from a stunning vantage point. Contrast this with the more tranquil but equally inspiring Lake Bohinj in the heart of the Julian Alps. We’ll shoot creative long exposures to capture fast-flowing rivers and waterfalls at Vintgar Gorge, and travel through many picturesque villages to shoot traditional hayracks and agricultural details and document a slower pace of life. We’ll photograph the vineyards and stone-built villages of Karst, and the salt pans and seacoast as well. Finally, we discover the warmth and charm of Ljubljana with its contrasting styles of architecture, café culture, and bustling riverbank and markets, each day capturing amazing sunrises, sunsets, and night sky as well.

We then cross the highest pass in the Julian Alps with incredible views across the Slovenian Alps. We travel down to the Soča River Valley to explore and photograph the incredible emerald waters of the Soča and discover gorges and waterfalls as we hike along the riverbanks. As well as capturing stunning landscapes, we may be lucky with some wildlife photography and will also take the opportunity to photograph the historical World War I remnants along the trail.

We finish in the historic walled port city of Piran, with its old cathedral, ancient city walls, and beautiful harbor.

During this workshop, you will learn the finer points of composition and the art of “seeing“. We will spend time in the field helping you with long exposures, panoramas, HDR, and night photography, too. We will also spend time in the “classroom“ where we’ll do image review and critique and post-processing with Lightroom. Expect to work hard, and learn a lot! We really do put the “work“ in workshop!

Your insights into how to shoot a scene have been very helpful to me and I’m already planning an outing close by to home to try some of them out. The itinerary was perfect and the photo ops well chosen. Thanks so much for a fantastic workshop, I loved every minute!
