Northern Lights, Stunning Landscapes, and Wildlife in The Yukon

Calling all photographers who have always wanted to photograph the northern lights! The Yukon is one of the best locations in the world to capture the Aurora.  It is here you will close your eyes and breathe in crisp Yukon air, smell spruce sap and the earthy scent of tundra, and listen for the excited howls of husky sled dogs. But the real magic happens when you open your eyes and drink in Yukon landscapes under dancing aurora borealis.

Come join Muench Workshops pros Kevin Pepper and Michael Strickland and photograph in Canada's Yukon—a larger than life experience!

Now after five years of running workshops in Northern Canada, we’ve decided to take a group of photographers to focus on an Aurora hunt and select winter landscapes in two Kevin’s favorite locations in the Yukon: Whitehorse and Tombstone. Amazing northern lights, stunning winter landscapes, and an unforgettable experience dogsledding and photographing the mushers!

We'll lodge in comfortable and warm hotel rooms, eat great food, and travel by two large SUVs. This is the perfect trip for someone who wants to focus on capturing once in a lifetime aurora images, amazing landscapes, and winter wildlife—over some of the most majestic landscapes Canada has to offer.

For this workshop we proudly work with our Canadian licensed guide and pro, Kevin Pepper Photography in Woodstock, Ontario.

Lots of great memories of a beautiful place, wonderful new friends made, and cards full of images. Plenty of variety: grand landscapes, auroras, and of course the dogs and horses and wildlife! Shooting the pro mushers with their teams was one of the coolest things I’ve ever shot :). Once again, Marc & Andy & Kevin went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great experience. You guys have hearts of gold. Thank you so much for all you do.

Big THANK YOU to Kevin Pepper, for all his guidance, planning, driving us all over, digging me out of a snow bank and for everything else he managed to do while we were in his care in the Yukon! No one knows the Yukon and where best to go for great photography than Kevin.

Itinerary and General Information

November 11, 2017: Arrive in Dawson City, where you will be picked up at the airport and taken to our hotel to get checked in. Once you are settled we will have a group dinner where Kevin and Michael will present a slide show of Aurora images, shooting techniques, and discuss our outings for the Aurora hunts and landscapes you will see.

If the Aurora forecast and skies are favorable, we will be out capturing the Aurora very close to the arctic circle.

November 11–13, 2017: More winter landscapes and Aurora up near the Arctic circle in Tombstone Territorial Park and around Dawson City.

At night we will return to the winter dreamland under the cover of stars, waiting for the skies to come alive with what the Eskimos who lived here believed to be the dance of animal spirits, especially those of deer, seals, salmon, and beluga.

There is a separate area where we will gather and edit images and have an image critique of aurora and landscape images from the area we are in.

November 14, 2017: Today we head south towards Whitehorse. Everyone will fly south on Air North flight (included) and be picked up at the Whitehorse airport and taken to the hotel in Whitehorse.

After dinner, if the skies cooperate, we will once again be out to photograph the northern lights in Southern Yukon.

November 15, 2017: We wake up and head to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. This will give you the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the many species of animals that exist in the Yukon. You will be photographing woodland bison, muskox, dall sheep, mountain goats, Canada lynx and Arctic fox. In small groups we will get lead around the preserve by staff members and taken behind the fence lines for more personal photo opportunities that the general public does not have access to.

In the afternoon we will head out to meet our snowmobile guides for an afternoon meet and greet. You will be taken on a guided snowmobile photo tour of the Ibex Mountain area to photograph some of the mountain and alpine winter landscapes.

If the skies cooperate, we will once again be out to photograph the northern lights in Southern Yukon.

November 16, 2017: Get ready to to meet some very special animals today, as we will visit local mountain ranges along the Alaska Highway before we head to Sky High Wilderness Ranch. After lunch You will be introduced to your personal dog teams that will whisk you across the Yukon landscapes for a few hours. If you’ve never yelled, “Mush” before, it is an exhilarating experience.

If the skies cooperate, we will once again be out to photograph the northern lights in Southern Yukon.

November 17, 2017: After a morning photoshoot near Fish Lake will will take back to the hotel before your flights home. You can schedule your departures from Whitehorse any time today. We will take you to the airport as required.
