Red Rock, Fall Colors and Sculpted Sandstones

This is a great workshop for those landscape photography enthusiasts who wish to better their skills in a dramatic region during a great time of year. Professional photographers Greg Vaughn and Michael Strickland will lead you on a journey though some of the best parts of the southwest, including Capitol Reef, Navajo Canyon in Bryce, Sunset Arch and more. You will learn how to compose, meter with your camera, utilize live view and much much more. You will explore the dramatic and rugged narrows in Capitol Reef's canyons during a time when the thunderstorms have subsided and the autumn colors are turning the maple, oak and cottonwoods yellow and red. The journey continues with a visit to the colorful Bryce Canyon National Park. Take in a sunset and sunrise from various location along the rim. Then explore the very wild and remote Escalante region where sandstone buttes and canyons cover the landscape for as far as the eye can see. With good conditions, you'll visit some landmarks during the night to learn how to photograph the stars in a landscape.

*The walk into Hickman Natural Bridge is easy but uneven at 1.2 miles each way. However, for those who would like to attend the workshop, can choose to walk up only part way that day and still enjoy an incredible experience with one of the leaders.

Greg Vaughn is a terrific photographer, an outstanding teacher and a superlative guide. He ‘knows the territory’. It doesn’t matter if he ‘wrote the book’ for an area, as he did for both Oregon and Washington, or if he is going to a location for the first time. In either case, you can rest assured that he will be totally prepared in every way. He will know where to go and when to be there and have the light figured out. When I’m with Greg, I always have a great time, I always learn a lot about the craft of getting a great image—and I always come away with images I treasure. He is the quintessential pro.
