Langurs call from high in the canopy, peacocks cry out in the distance, and tiger tracks etch quiet stories into the dusty trails—clues to the wild drama unfolding just beyond view. This is central India: a place where raw nature and deep stillness coexist, where each moment hums with untamed energy.
For photographers, it’s a rare chance to create bold, intimate images in one of the world’s richest biodiversity hotspots. This workshop takes you deep into three of India’s premier tiger reserves—Tadoba, Kanha, and Bandhavgarh—each offering its own mix of terrain, light, and wildlife. From bamboo thickets and grassy meadows to riverbanks and open savannah, these parks set the stage for a wide range of photographic opportunities.
You’ll have the chance to photograph tigers, leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs (dhole), barasingha, and more than 150 species of birds. The light is often soft and filtered, the scenery lush and textured—perfect conditions for building a varied, portfolio-worthy body of work.
To give you the best access, we’ve secured multiple all-day safari permits in each park. This means early entry, the ability to move between zones, and more time in the field when the action is at its peak. Indian safari jeeps hold two photographers per vehicle, and we’ll reserve four jeeps total, allowing us to ensure each guest has their own row, along with space for your Muench Workshops pro and a dedicated local naturalist guide who will accompany our group on the entire trip.
Throughout the journey, you’ll receive personalized instruction tailored to your goals—refining exposure, anticipating animal behavior, and building stronger compositions, whether you’re capturing fast-paced action or the quiet tension of a tiger emerging from the brush. Days are filled with photography from sunrise to sunset, but there’s also time to review your images, receive feedback, and grow more confident in your creative choices.
In the evenings, unwind in welcoming lodges, savor delicious local meals, and enjoy the camaraderie of a small group of like-minded photographers. Share stories, reflect on the day’s best moments, and look ahead to the next adventure.
This isn’t just a wildlife tour – it’s a focused photographic experience in one of the planet’s most exhilarating natural environments. You’ll return with a sharpened skill set, an unforgettable portfolio, and the memory of a place where the wild still leads.
About the wildlife: This workshop offers significant opportunities for photographing wildlife, and while we do our best to maximize our wildlife encounters—based on past experiences, local knowledge, and the current conditions—we need to impress upon you that the wildlife really is wild and that we don’t control it.
This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, and other factors.
Arrive anytime in Delhi and transfer to the hotel.
Everyone will meet for breakfast, followed by a full-day tour of Delhi. This day has been arranged to immerse you in the hustle and bustle of this large, beautiful city and the culture of India. You will visit the Chandni Chowk market, the Spice Market, and Old Delhi. If there’s time, we’ll visit the Jama Masjid and Humayun’s Tomb. In the early afternoon, we’ll make our way back to the hotel for a little relaxation, followed by dinner, and to make any last-minute preparations for the adventure ahead.
We’ll take a regional flight from Delhi to Nagpur and the Jabalpur airport, board a small private bus, and transfer to our lodge at the Tadoba National Park.
Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of India’s finest and most biodiverse forest tracts—often called the Land of Tigers for its high tiger density. With an estimated 115 tigers roaming its 625 sq km, sightings are frequent, along with wild dogs, leopards, sloth bears, gaur, and many more species, including the elusive rusty spotted cat and flying squirrel.
The reserve is also home to over 200 bird species, such as the crested serpent eagle, paradise flycatcher, grey-headed fishing eagle, and shy jungle fowl, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.
Less commercialized than other parks, Tadoba remains pristine and ecologically rich. Its dry deciduous forests are dominated by bamboo and teak, interspersed with flowering silk cotton, kusum, and the striking white-barked ghost trees—a favorite among photographers.
We’ll spend the day of the 10th driving to Kanha National Parl. This drive will be over the day the parks are scheduled to close so you won’t miss any safari time. Kanha National Park offers the quintessential Indian safari experience—step into the real-life Jungle Book as you explore the lush sal forests, clear streams, and grassy meadows of the Kanha Tiger Reserve in the Central Indian Highlands. Home to a thriving tiger population, the park also shelters barasingha (the ‘Jewel of Kanha’), chital, dhole, gaur, jackals, sloth bears, leopards, and cheeky langurs.
At dusk, look along the park’s edges for striped hyenas, jungle cats, civets, ratels, and hares. Turtles and amphibians glide through the park’s waters, while over 200 bird species—like flying rainbows—bring bursts of color to the treetops.
Following our time on safari in Kanha, we will take a day to move on to our next National Park, called Bandhavgarh. The parks are scheduled to be closed on this day, so you won’t miss any safari time.
Arrive at Bagh Tola Jungle Lodge in the afternoon of the 10th. Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the famed tiger abodes of India, sheltering the highest concentrations of tigers in the world. On each of the three safari days, staff will wake you up to present you with tea/coffee. Then everyone will make the short walk to their jeep, surrounded by the sounds of calling birds.
Safari begins at dawn, and on the days with the all-day pass, we will begin a bit earlier. We’ll have a jungle safari and early lunch on the last morning. We’ll then board another private bus and drive through the countryside to our following location, Kanha National Park. Our drive will include stops and lunch in the sleepy town of Mandla, the sacred city of the Fond tribes, where the Narmada River begins. Drive time is approximately 6 hours.
Fly home anytime.
We've chosen the nicest camps for comfort, knowledgeable and friendly staff, great food, and convenience to our main objective, the wildlife. We also place considerable value on your photographic sightings. Typical tented accommodations feature twin beds or queen beds, high thread-count linens, storage for clothing, a sitting area, a verandah, and en suite bathrooms with toilets, hot water, and showers. They are enormous in size, bright, open, and airy.
Our days start early, before sunrise. We'll have a quick coffee or tea, maybe a cookie, and off on our first game drive of the day. The animals are just starting to stir as the day begins, and we want to be there and in the best light. In India, there is space for two guests per jeep. We reserve enough jeeps so everyone gets an entire row, leaving space for the local driver and park ranger in the two front seats. This means that you may ride with another guest or the Muench Workshops pro, or our local Indian guide who accompanies us on the entire safari. We will mix up the groups each day, so you will have time to ride with everyone. Food in our camps is superb—you'll be served dishes you know and local specialties, too. Of course, any dietary needs can be accommodated.
Our camps feature optional daily laundry service (but not on days we travel between camps).
We know you have choices, and yes, you can spend less on another safari. We aim to give you the best possible experience, maximizing your time and minimizing the hassle while providing the best photographic experience and instruction available anywhere.
Photography and Safari Guiding: We've chosen a local safari guide to accompany our Muench Workshops pro for this photographic safari.
Details Matter: Our itinerary is set to bring you the best game viewing and all the region offers. We arrange transportation so that you have plenty of space next to you. This is very important in India, considering the small size of the passenger benches. We have reserved two "all-day" passes at each of the parks. This increases the opportunity to move throughout different regions within each park and allows for early access.
Photography Instruction: This is a workshop, not just a tour. We will work hard on this safari, with instruction in the field and camp.
Years of Experience—Happy Repeat Customers: We've been leading, guiding, and teaching photographers for a long time—and we have thrilled customers who come back on our workshops repeatedly to prove it. If you'd like to speak to someone who has been with us on a workshop or safari, just let us know, we'd be happy to arrange a phone call.
Easy: Short walks to and from safari vehicles.
