Join us for a women-only photography workshop in Death Valley National Park to explore one of North America’s most striking desert landscapes with purpose and creativity. Framed by badlands, sweeping salt flats, and sculpted dunes, Death Valley becomes an ideal setting for photography focused on pattern, light, and minimalist design. Sunrise at Mesquite Flat Dunes, golden hour in Golden Canyon, and the vast, low-angle glow across Badwater Basin all create opportunities to work with contrast, texture, and shifting desert atmosphere.
This women-only workshop goes beyond the obvious and gives you a deeper, more creative connection to the desert. Along with photographing iconic locations such as Mesquite Flat Dunes, Zabriskie Point, Golden Canyon, Badwater Basin, and Twenty Mule Team Canyon, we’ll travel into the southern reaches of the park to work at the remote Ibex Dunes. Here, a private outfitted camp provides shelter, warm meals, and the rare quiet of photographing in true solitude. Among wind-sculpted dunes and vast, empty horizons, we slow down, pay attention, and create with intention.
You’ll get hands-on guidance in the field, with your pros right beside you to help you refine your compositions and timing in the ever-changing desert light. Through real-time feedback and thoughtful image reviews, you’ll develop stronger instincts for composition and technical skills that will stay with you long after you leave Death Valley.
This is more than a photography trip. It’s a space to connect, learn, and create with fellow women photographers – led by female pros! You’ll find support and encouragement in every session, from pre-dawn shoots in soft desert light to evening gatherings under the stars. Whether you’re building technical confidence or exploring new artistic directions, this workshop offers a balance of adventure, reflection, and shared creativity in one of the most photogenic places on earth.
This workshop is operated by Muench Workshops, an Authorized Permittee of the National Park Service.
This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, and other factors.
Arrive in Las Vegas this morning or the day prior. We’ll meet in a hotel lobby at noon and head out to begin our adventure in Death Valley. Hotel check-in is at 4:00 PM, so we’ll grab some lunch along the way and keep an eye out for photo opportunities on the drive. After check-in, we’ll head out for our first sunset shoot at Zabriskie Point.
The sunrise shoot will be at Badwater Basin, followed by breakfast and a break, with time to collect your images for our image review and processing session, where lunch will be served. Then, we drive north to Lee Flat, where we will photograph the abundant and charismatic Joshua Trees. Along the way, we will see stunning views of Panamint Valley and even stop at Father Crowley Point and Rainbow Canyon, where there’s a possibility of seeing military aircraft in training. While at Lee Flat in the afternoon, we’ll spend time hunting for compositions among the Joshua Trees to capture during the sunset hour and full moon rise. We’ll stop for dinner on the drive back to our hotel.
Sunrise shoot at 20 Mule Team Canyon, followed by breakfast and some time to pack for our two nights of camping at Ibex Dunes. We’ll settle into camp, have lunch, and then hike to the dunes for a sunset shoot, followed by a hot meal back in camp.
The group will get up early to hike back to Ibex Dunes to capture the early dawn light and sunrise colors. After enjoying a hot breakfast back in camp, you’ll spend the day exploring the area around the dunes, the nearby oasis, possibly abandoned mining camps, etc. We’ll stop in the afternoon for some appetizers and a hearty dinner before heading out for sunset in the dunes and an opportunity to photograph the night sky before the moon rises.
Our last sunrise on the dunes, and then we’ll pack up and leave camp with our lunches. Once we get back to the hotel, we’ll hold an image review before taking a short break. We’ll photograph sunset at Dante’s View, a stunning view from nearly 5,000 feet above the valley floor.
Sunrise shoot at Cottonball Basin, followed by breakfast at the hotel and our final image review. We’ll be on our way to Las Vegas by 11:00 AM, in time for flights any time after 2:00 PM.
You will be camping for two nights in our fully-outfitted wilderness camp during this workshop. Each person will be in a large tent (large enough to stand up in) shared with another guest. Everyone is provided with a cot, thick comfortable pad, and sleeping bag, and some lighting is provided inside the tents.
A separate dining tent with tables for eating will be available for everyone at all hours. Plenty of cool or hot water is available at all times, along with snacks, including fresh fruits. The outfitters are trained in wilderness cooking and wilderness first aid. Sanitary hand washing stations are set up for use.

These women-only workshops are designed to empower, inspire, and build female community. While our co-ed workshops are always welcoming, we've heard from female guests that a women-only setting offers something different: a chance to feel more at ease in the field, to ask questions freely, and to build lasting connections with other women who share the same passion for photography and travel.
Led by some of the most talented female photographers in the field, expect thoughtful teaching, a supportive environment, and experiences that grow confidence both behind the camera and in the field.
Moderate: You must be able to hike up to two miles over uneven ground and sand dunes with moderate elevation gain.
Arrive at McCarran International Airport (LAS), Las Vegas, Nevada before 11:00 AM on February 22, 2027. Flights out can be made after 2:00 PM on February 27, 2027. Air travel delays are common. Please arrive early, possibly even the day prior, so you don’t miss any of the workshop.
Please see our page How To Prepare For Your Workshop. We will send you a detailed information document 90 days before your workshop. This document will include specifics of where and when to meet, gear and clothing recommendations, and more.
You'll refine your skills in composition and timing, focusing on patterns, light, and minimalist design. The workshop includes hands-on guidance for capturing sunrise and sunset light, working with contrast and texture, and creating intentional compositions in the desert landscape.
In addition to the wonderful expertise of our female Pros on this location, we also recognize that camping with strangers can be uncomfortable. By providing outfitted camping, we take all the stress out of the experience so you can focus on building your photography and community!
A moderate fitness level is needed, as you'll be hiking up to two miles over uneven ground and sand dunes with moderate elevation gain.
