Few wildlife spectacles on Earth compare to the Great Migration—and we’ve designed this workshop to put you at the heart of it. Each year, over a million wildebeest gather on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti to give birth, triggering one of nature’s most dramatic predator-prey dramas. For photographers, it’s an unparalleled opportunity: newborn calves finding their feet within minutes of birth, lions and cheetahs in pursuit, and sweeping landscapes alive with wildlife.
We’ll base ourselves in small, secluded camps that place us close to the action yet far from the crowds. With private vehicles limited to one guest per row, you’ll enjoy space for gear, clear sightlines, and the freedom to focus entirely on your photography. Each day begins before sunrise to capture the best light and peak activity, followed by a midday break to rest, recharge, and review your images. Afternoons bring more game drives in the golden light, often ending with sundowners in breathtaking settings.
This safari is as much about learning as it is about experiencing. You’ll receive personalized, hands-on instruction in the field, one-on-one guidance during downtime, and image reviews and post-processing sessions in Lightroom. From refining your wildlife photography to mastering critter-scapes, capturing animals in their environment, or gaining confidence with telephoto lenses, you’ll leave with new skills and a stronger portfolio.
At the end of our journey, we’ll shift to Namiri Plains, one of the Serengeti’s last great secrets, home to some of the highest densities of cheetahs in Africa. Here, you’ll not only photograph these extraordinary cats but also contribute to their protection, with a portion of your workshop fee supporting the Serengeti Cheetah Project. Along the way, expect encounters with lions, leopards, elephants, and giraffes in one of Africa’s wildest and most rewarding landscapes.
This is more than a safari. It’s a carefully curated photographic journey, one that balances exclusivity, comfort, and expert guidance to deliver an experience you won’t find anywhere else.

About the wildlife: This workshop offers significant opportunities for photographing wildlife, and while we do our best to maximize our wildlife encounters—based on past experiences, local knowledge, and the current conditions—we need to impress upon you that the wildlife really is wild and that we don’t control it.
This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, and other factors.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), Kilimanjaro, Tanzania anytime today. Air travel delays are common. Please arrive early, possibly even the day prior, so you don’t miss any of the workshop.
Your guides will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport. From there, it’s a short drive to your first hotel in a quiet part of Arusha. The hotel offers comfortable rooms and a peaceful setting, perfect for resting after your journey.
This morning, a private chartered flight will whisk us away to the southern Serengeti. Flying privately not only saves time but also allows us to carry more photography equipment than typical travelers. Our destination: a small and exclusive safari camp with just six rooms, nestled deep in the wilderness.
This semi-permanent camp moves three times a year to stay close to the migration. Wildlife is often spotted right from the dining area—or even the comfort of your own tent. The true highlight of the day though will come at sunset, when we embark on our first game drive through one of the most predator-dense regions in Africa.
To ensure privacy and comfort, we’ve booked the camp exclusively for our group for the entire duration of our stay.
Over the next five days, we’ll explore the Ndutu region, where wildebeests gather at this time of year. We’ll set out in two open-sided safari vehicles, allowing your own row of seats for maximum comfort and photography opportunities. Each vehicle will be led by a local driver and one of our photography experts.
Your days will start early, before sunrise, to take advantage of the soft morning light and active wildlife. Midday provides a chance to return to camp for a break, before heading out again in the late afternoon to capture the magic of the golden hour and the activity that comes with it.
Our focus will be on capturing unforgettable moments—witnessing wildebeest births, tracking lion prides, and searching for leopards in the dense bush. Along the way, we’ll also encounter Maasai giraffes, African elephants, Cape buffaloes, and a rich variety of bird species. If we’re lucky, we may even spot rare cats like servals or caracals.
Next, you head north. After a scenic three-and-a-half-hour drive—though the timing may vary depending on wildlife sightings along the way—you’ll arrive at one of the Serengeti’s best-kept secrets: Namiri Plains. This area is among the least developed areas of Serengeti National Park. It was closed to the public for twenty years to allow cheetahs to raise their cubs without disturbance from tourist vehicles. The strategy worked: the cheetah population recovered, and now Namiri is once again open to visitors—though only to those staying at the exclusive camp you’ll be using for the next few days.
After settling in, you’ll head out on your first afternoon safari. This is the perfect introduction to Namiri’s sweeping landscapes and rich wildlife. With the golden light of late day across the plains, you may encounter lions resting on rocky outcrops, herds of elephants moving across the grasslands, or cheetahs beginning their evening hunt.
This is arguably one of the finest camps in all of Africa, featuring just 11 spacious, open-fronted tented suites, each with sweeping views of the vast plains. It’s not uncommon to see elephants walking right past your bed. The camp offers all the luxuries one could hope for, including outdoor showers overlooking the savannah, a private deck with a freestanding bathtub, and outstanding cuisine.
The next two days are dedicated to exploring Namiri. You’ll enjoy morning and afternoon game drives across the plains, giving you the best chance to photograph wildlife in the soft golden light at dawn and dusk. Between safaris, you can relax at camp, watch animals wander past your tent, or simply soak in the sweeping views from your private deck.
In Namiri, you’ll have exceptional opportunities to photograph cheetahs in action. Namiri has one of the highest densities of cheetahs not only in the Serengeti but anywhere in the world. You’ll search for and photograph them, while also supporting their conservation.
Included in the cost of this safari is a donation to the Serengeti Cheetah Project, which has been operating for over 30 years through the Wildlife Conservation Society. This long-standing research initiative monitors the birth and survival rates of cheetahs, helping to predict trends in cheetah populations across their range. It also offers critical insights into the threats facing the species and identifies ways to mitigate human-wildlife conflict.
As a thank-you for your donation, one afternoon you’ll be visited by researchers from the project, who will share fascinating details about their work. They’ll also help you identify the individual cheetahs you’ve photographed using the unique spot patterns on their flanks—and tell you each cat’s story.
But cheetahs aren’t the only stars of the region. Namiri Plains is also home to abundant lions and elusive leopards, which you may spot lounging on photogenic rock outcrops near camp. For many photographers, this is one of the most spectacular and rewarding areas in the Serengeti: remote, wild, and teeming with life.
After breakfast, you’ll board a private flight – don’t miss the stunning views outside your windows of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Highlands on your return to Arusha. For those heading home, we’ve arranged day rooms at our lodge, providing a comfortable space to shower, change, and relax before your evening flight. We’ll ensure your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport is seamless and timed perfectly for check-in.If you’re joining us for the 7 Day Kenya Safari, we’ll inform you of the correct flight to Nairobi.

In short, you'll feel like you're in a luxury hotel! We've handpicked our camps for comfort, knowledgeable and friendly staff, great food, and convenience to our main objective, the wildlife. We also place considerable value on isolation and exclusivity. You won't find us in areas where dozens of other vehicles are at a sighting—you'll feel like you own the land and the animals are there just for you! Typical tented accommodations feature twin beds or a queen bed, high thread-count linens, storage for clothing, a sitting area, a verandah, and of course, en suite bathrooms with toilets, hot water, and showers. They are enormous in size, bright, open, and airy.
Our days start early, before sunrise. We'll have a quick coffee or tea, maybe a cookie, and off on our first game drive of the day. The animals are starting to stir as the day begins, and we want to be there in the best light. Depending on the sightings, we'll stay out for several hours. After a mid-drive coffee break, we'll continue until mid to late morning. We typically have breakfast in the field to maximize our game-viewing and photographing time. Back in camp, it's time for offloading cards, one-on-one instruction, or just relaxing and doing nothing. Read a book, take a walk, or take a nap and recharge. Of course, there will be lunch, and then In the mid to late afternoon, we'll again head out for another game drive, chasing the best sightings. Enjoying your favorite drink while watching and photographing the sunset is popular. Arrive back at camp after sundown, enjoy a hot shower if you like, and then join us by the campfire or in the living area for cocktails, followed by dinner.
Food in our camps is superb—you'll be served both dishes you know and local specialties, too. Of course, any dietary needs can be accommodated. We've arranged for the best safari vehicles—custom Land Cruisers that feature ample room for you and your gear and excellent visibility. And only one photographer per row of seats (note that the front seat next to the driver counts as a row). Our camps feature optional daily laundry service (but not on days we travel between camps).

We know you have choices—and yes, you can spend less on another safari. But our goal is to give you the best possible experience: maximizing your time in the field, minimizing hassle, and providing world-class photographic opportunities and instruction.
Photography and Guiding: We've handpicked the very best local safari guides, chosen for their deep knowledge of the land and wildlife. Combined with our photographic expertise, this partnership ensures you're always in the right place at the right time for remarkable images.
Details Matter: Our itineraries are curated to deliver outstanding game viewing while avoiding the crowded areas you often see in the news. Whenever possible, we secure off-road access so you can get close to the action and capture compelling, intimate photographs.
Photography Instruction: This isn't a photography tour—it's a workshop. Expect hands-on instruction in the field, one-on-one support during the day, and in the evenings, image reviews and post-processing sessions in Lightroom. You'll return home with stronger images and a deeper understanding of how to create and refine them.
Experience and Trust: We've been leading, guiding, and teaching photographers for many years. Our guests return again and again, a testament to the quality of our safaris. If you'd like to speak directly with a past participant, we'd be happy to arrange a call.
Easy: You must be able to get in and out of the custom Land Cruisers, and ride for several hours on possibly bumpy terrain.
