Landscape Photography Workshop – Mastering Composition, Light and Post-Processing in Colorado
Join us for a landscape photography workshop at the peak of Colorado fall colors, where you’ll grow your creative vision and transform the way you see and process your images. With more instructors than our typical workshop, you’ll get multiple perspectives on composition, color, and storytelling as well as deep, practical guidance in post-production. Whether you’re just starting out or refining your skills, this Vision Series course balances classroom learning, field practice, and expert feedback to move your photography forward.
In the fall, the mountains around Crested Butte turn into a patchwork of gold and orange with aspen groves climbing the slopes and crisp, clear air sharpening every line of the landscape. Low morning light filters through the turning trees, distant ridges stack into soft blue layers, and cool evenings bring subtle color shifts from sunset into blue hour. It’s the perfect time to slow down, study the light, and build more intentional landscape images.
Each day starts with focused classroom sessions that dive into key topics like composition, working with natural light, post-processing, and color management. You’ll learn how these elements work together to create landscape images and how deliberate choices in framing, timing, and treatment can turn a good scene into a great photograph.
In the afternoons, we head into the field to apply what we’ve learned in real-world conditions among the fall colors of Colorado. Evenings are reserved for golden hour and sunset, the perfect time to capture subtle shifts in color and tone from sunset into blue hour. You’ll learn to recognize and control variations in white balance, color space, and dynamic range so your files reflect your creative intent from capture to final image.
Your instructors — who have spent years mastering composition and post-processing — will be with you in the field and in the classroom conversations, offering practical guidance, clear demonstrations, and constructive image reviews. This is more than a photo tour; it’s a complete learning experience that will leave you with new skills, a stronger portfolio, and a fresh approach to seeing and composing the landscape.
For this workshop, we require that you already understand how your Lightroom Classic catalog works and that you can make basic edits in Lightroom Classic or Adobe Camera Raw. You’ll also need Adobe Photoshop as we’ll be working with both programs throughout the course. You will be required know how to perform basic editing tasks in Adobe Lightroom Classic and have a laptop computer capable of running both programs efficiently.

This Vision Series workshop functions as an intensive focus group, thoughtfully designed to balance structured classroom learning with immersive field experiences. Each day begins with engaging indoor sessions that combine formal presentations with open, collaborative discussions. During these classroom hours, you'll receive clear, step-by-step instruction on a variety of creative post-processing techniques using tools like Lightroom and Photoshop. These sessions will cover everything from refining color and contrast to more advanced methods for creating mood and visual depth in your images.
In addition to the technical instruction, we'll dedicate time to deeper, more subjective conversations around creativity in photography. These interactive discussions will explore the nuances of composition, the use of light and shadow, and various in-camera techniques such as long exposures, intentional camera movement, and lens choices. Rather than just providing formulas, our goal is to foster an environment where participants are encouraged to think critically and artistically, developing a deeper understanding of how to use both gear and vision to create more meaningful images.
This mix of hands-on instruction and open dialogue is designed to support photographers at all levels, helping each participant grow not just in skill, but in artistic voice and confidence.
