Greg is a photographer, traveler, writer, and photo educator. During his 40+ years as a full-time pro, Greg has worked in multiple photographic genres, including years as a freelance commercial and editorial assignment photographer in Hawaii. He was the campaign photographer for two of Hawaii’s governors and was the official photographer of the Ironman Triathlon in Kona. Greg is a proud alumnus of the University of Hawaii, earning a degree in Zoology at the advent of the 1970’s Ecology movement.
Greg is now based in Eugene, Oregon. He and his wife/partner/soulmate Penelope love living in the Pacific Northwest, travel as much as possible, and especially enjoy exploring Mexico.
Travel and exploring the natural world have always been Greg’s number one passion throughout his career. He is the author and photographer of Oregon: A Photographic Journey, a collection of photos of his adopted home state, and two award-winning travel guidebooks, Photographing Oregon and Photographing Washington. Following the publication of those books, Greg started leading photo workshops and discovered that he truly loves guiding people to wonderful locations, helping them improve their technical skills, and inspiring artistic explorations.
His photos have been published by National Geographic, Backpacker, Sierra Club, Audubon, The Nature Conservancy, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, and many other travel, conservation, and lifestyle magazines and websites.
The North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), and the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) have honored Greg’s work with multiple awards. He is a Life Member of ASMP, the American Society of Media Photographers.
