The Emerald Isle and its Wild Atlantic Islands

April 26 – May 4, 2025

Join us for a deep dive into the beauty of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. We’ll photograph stunning locations in County Clare, the Dingle peninsula, the Blasket Islands, and Killarney with its national park. This region offers a fantastic diversity of photographic subjects along the dramatic coastline. Ireland is known for its lush farmland and stunning coast, and you won’t be disappointed as we photograph lighthouses, shipwrecks, stone cottages, castles, waterfalls, and more.

Our itinerary includes two nights in the renovated cottages on Great Blasket Island. These rustic accommodations will be an opportunity to connect to the natural wonder of Ireland in a remote setting. We’ll prepare food for you and enjoy this secluded island’s incredible peacefulness. But don’t worry. Not all of our accommodations will be rustic! We’ll also enjoy some fine hotels and fantastic meals.

The varied landscape offers a wide variety of photographic opportunities. Perfect your skills by using polarizing and neutral density filters, capturing sweeping landscapes and the local culture. The spring flowers offer an excellent opportunity to work on your macro photography skills. We’ll be instructing on all these techniques, and then we’ll see how they were put into practice during our signature image review sessions. We’ll explore Lightroom’s technical and creative options as we review your images and demonstrate key photo-processing concepts.

This workshop is designed to maximize opportunities and minimize travel time. With such an incredible diversity of photographic opportunities in this region, you’re sure to come home with memories and photographs to last a lifetime.

Itinerary

This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, and other factors.

April 26, 2025: Arrive this day at Shannon Airport in Ireland before 2:00 PM. We will meet you at the airport for transfer to our hotel in County Clare. We’ll have a short introduction and dinner and then head out to photograph the sunset.

April 26–28, 2025: COUNTY CLARE: These first couple of days, we will explore the potential of this untamed coastline. There are loads on offer for photographic subjects, whether a rusty shipwreck lying on the rocks, a black and white lighthouse, or cute stone cottages with colorful doors. We’ll take a boat trip for an overnight stay on Inisheer (Innis Oirr), one of the Aran Islands where we’ll explore the fantastic maze of dry stone walls intersecting lush green farmland. We’ll also be doing a clifftop hike and a location shoot at the Burren—an other-worldly landscape of cracked limestone rocks and boulders.

April 28–30, 2025: THE DINGLE PENINSULA: Filled with photographic potential, the Dingle Peninsula offers everything from elevated sweeping vistas to intimate seascape scenes. We’ll stay in the heart of Dingle itself, a typical Irish town full of color and charm. Walking around the streets with a camera will ensure your memory card is well-used. We will photograph Dunquin Pier—one of the most photogenic piers on the planet—and drive to some of the impressive coastal sections in the area.

April 30 – May 2, 2025: GREAT BLASKET ISLAND: One of Ireland’s best secrets, the Blasket Islands, is home to an abandoned village in a photogenic bay—perfect for anyone with a camera. We’ll be staying in some of the original village cottages, which have been renovated to ensure they keep their original character. Although basic in amenities (no power!), they offer the perfect getaway for a couple of days with only a few hundred seals and the odd sheep for company. If the sea cooperates, we’ll end our stay here with a boat tour around the archipelago of six islands, all dramatic in appearance, with Cathedral Rocks being a particular highlight.

May 2–4, 2025: KILLARNEY: After a few days on the coast, we end our trip among Ireland’s mightiest mountains and spectacular lakes. You’ll have everything from bluebell woodlands, castles, waterfalls, valley views, and lone trees to photograph. We’ll embark on a couple of photo drives where we’ll stop to make the most of the ever-changing light on the landscape. We’ll also schedule some time to wander around the town center, which is full of great restaurants, bars, and boutique shops, so don’t worry about getting those last-minute gifts to take home.

May 4, 2025: You will be dropped off at the airport for your flight home, which can be anytime after 2:00 PM today.

The Great Blasket Island Cottages

Our stay on the Great Blasket Island will undoubtedly highlight the trip. But please note that there are minimal facilities on the island. We have secured the only available cottages, renovated to maintain their original charm. Everyone will need to share a room for these two nights, but the beds are comfortable. Each cottage has two bedrooms upstairs, and downstairs is a living space and kitchen. There is no restaurant, shop, or cafe, so we'll bring and prepare very basic meals that will be hot and ready for us when we return from photographing this unique location. There are flush toilets and running water, but as of this writing, no hot showers. The ferry ride to the island should be about 15 minutes, depending on the conditions. Note there is no electricity or phone service on the island, so be sure to bring plenty of batteries and a charging "brick" for our two-night stay.

Fitness

Moderate: Long walks on uneven, rocky, and occasionally steep ground. You must be comfortable in a small boat.

Testimonials

“Your customer service is the best we have ever experienced with any photography travel/adventure company we have done business with bar none. We have done business with several well known companies, but you're the best. You made us feel like we meant something to your company not just another paying customer. I can't express enough how impressed I am with the gift package you sent us before the trip, the personal phone calls to make sure were good to go, the Whatsapp communications, and the interaction during the adventure. My feeling is that you put the customer first and that is important to the organization. I wish other businesses had that philosophy. Thank you for an adventure that created life long memories for us, I will be talking about this trip for years to come. ”

— Brent Wright, Scotland '19

“This was my fourth trip with Muench Workshops and my second to Scotland. The workshop to the Isle of Lewis & Harris was simply wonderful! Eishken Estate, our home on the island was charming and gave us a glimpse of a bygone age. The food was excellent! But most importantly the photographic opportunities were outstanding as were David, Marcus, and Harry. ”
