An exclusive African Safari experience

February 26 – March 6, 2025

Join us for this unique Kenya Safari experience: Elephants and Flamingos! We start at Amboseli, which is close to the border between Kenya and Tanzania and is dominated by the continent’s highest mountain—Kilimanjaro. It has Africa’s highest density of elephants per square mile, as well as an exceptional diversity of wildlife.

Capped with snow and ascending into the clouds, Mt. Kilimanjaro soars to 19,340 feet and provides a stunning backdrop for our safari on private land adjacent to Amboseli National Park. Get ready to be up close and personal with herds of elephants, you’ll definitely need your wide-angle lens at times! Here at Amboseli, we’ll also feature plenty of photography with our long-time Masai warrior friends. Be ready for anything!

We’re staying in comfort Muench-style at one of the best camps in the area, with all the expected amenities: fantastic food, luxurious accommodations with en-suite facilities, and hot showers. Expect to be immersed in photography and safari from sunrise until sunset. Everyone can expect to learn the finer points of wildlife photography and to refine “the art of seeing,” where you will work on improving your compositions. We will work with you on image reviews and post-processing in the evenings and during downtimes.

We follow this up with Kenya’s Lake Bogoria, one of the world’s most unique wildlife locations, and at our private luxury safari camp, you’ll be perfectly situated to photograph the incredible biomass of over 1,000,000 flamingos. We will photograph from custom blinds on the shore of the lake, from our zodiac on the lake, and from our helicopter above the lake. The sight of these flamingos en masse will take your breath away the first time you see it, and the 100th time you see it.

Our camp is situated in a forest and beside a small stream. You will have a luxury mobile safari tent with a comfortable bed, mattress, linens, and blankets. There are hot showers and en-suite facilities. There is a lounge area for relaxing as well as for our photo editing. Food will be fresh and local, with an international flair.

Itinerary

About the wildlife: This workshop offers significant opportunities for photographing wildlife, and while we do our best to maximize our wildlife encounters—based on past experiences, local knowledge, and the current conditions—we need to impress upon you that the wildlife really is wild and that we don’t control it.

This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, and other factors.

February 26, 2025: If you are not joining us from the Tanzania Safari prior, then arrive in Nairobi, Kenya anytime today. Our VIP service will meet you at the airport, escort you through customs and immigration, and get you to our local hotel. Relax, and get ready for our safari which starts first thing in the morning.

February 27, 2025: For those starting in Nairobi, we’ll escort you to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport where we have a short 50 minute flight to Amboseli National Park where our safari begins. For those on our Tanzania Safari, from Arusha we will head to the Tanzania / Kenya border at Namanga, and after our border crossing we’ll drive to our camp in Amboseli National Park. We will see and photograph plenty of game on the way! We’ll arrive in the afternoon and get settled, and enjoy a nice dinner followed by post-processing.

February 27 – March 3, 2025: We are on safari in Amboseli. Each day we’ll arise before dawn, and after a quick cup of coffee or tea, we’ll head out on our morning game drive. We have our own private vehicles for this safari, with one row per guest, which means you will not miss the shot and you will have ample room for you and your gear. During this safari we not only will be photographing in Amboseli National Park, but on our private land as well, which is adjacent to the park. Here we have exclusive and unfettered access to the wildlife, we can go off-road and anywhere we like, and we can photograph from outside the vehicles as well.

March 3–6, 2025: We are at our private safari camp at Lake Bogoria, photographing the flamingos and other wildlife that inhabits. Expect to be photographing morning and late afternoon for sure, and other times in between. In the mornings, we’ll take turns in the photographic hides, where you’ll be set up before sunrise, and wait for the birds to come in and surround you. Those not in the hide will be on the lake in our custom zodiac, photographing the birds from the water level. On our day, we’ll take turns photographing from the air by helicopter at sunset, and again the next morning at sunrise.

We’ll be well cared for in camp with amazing food, hot showers, and comfy tents with warm cozy beds. Of course we’ll have time for our signature image reviews and plenty of post-processing instruction.

March 6, 2025: We won’t waste this last day! We’ll be up early and in the helicopters again for morning a sunrise flight over Lake Bogoria. Afterwards, we’ll have breakfast and then packup and head back to Nairobi in our comfortable minivans.  We have secured day rooms for you to give you a place to repack, clean up, and prepare for your International flight home.

What is safari camp life like?

In short, you'll feel like you're in a luxury hotel! We've handpicked our camps for comfort, knowledgeable and friendly staff, great food, and convenience to our main objective, the wildlife. We also place considerable value on isolation and exclusivity. You won't find us in areas where there are dozens of other vehicles at a sighting—you'll feel like you own the land, and the animals are there just for you! Typical tented accommodations feature twin beds or queen bed, high thread-count linens, storage for clothing, sitting area, verandah, and of course en suite bathrooms, with toilets, hot water, and showers. They are enormous in size, bright, open, and airy.

Our days start early before sunrise. We'll have a quick coffee or tea, maybe a cookie, and off on our first game drive of the day. The animals are just starting to stir as the day begins, and we want to be there, and in the best light. We'll stay out for a few to several hours, depending on the sightings. After a mid-drive coffee break, we'll continue on until mid to late morning. We typically have breakfast in the field to maximize our game-viewing and photographing time. Back in camp, it's time for offloading cards, one-on-one instruction, or just taking time to relax and do nothing. Read a book, take a walk, or take a nap and recharge. Of course, there will be lunch, and then In the mid to late afternoon, we'll again head out for another game drive, chasing the best sightings. Enjoying your favorite drink while watching and photographing the sunset is a popular activity. Arrive back at camp after sundown, enjoy a hot shower if you like, and then join us by the campfire or in the living area for cocktails followed by dinner.

Food in our camps is superb—you'll be served both dishes you know and local specialties, too. Of course any dietary needs can be accommodated.

We've arranged for the best safari vehicles—custom Land Cruisers which feature ample room for you and your gear, and excellent visibility. And only one photographer per row of seats (note that front seat next to driver counts as a row). All of our camps feature optional daily laundry service (but not on days we travel in between camps).

Why a Muench Workshops Safari?

We know you have choices, and yes, you can spend less on another Safari. Our aim is to give you the best possible experience, maximizing your time and minimizing the hassle, while providing the best photographic experience and instruction available anywhere.

Photography and Safari Guiding: We've personally chosen only the best local safari guides for this photographic safari.

Details Matter: Our itinerary is carefully set to bring you the best game viewing and all that the region offers. We arrange things so that we're in areas that are not overly crowded with many other safari vehicles, and we get off-road when possible so we can get close to the action and our subjects.

Photography Instruction: This is a workshop, not just a tour. We will work hard on this safari, with instruction in the field and in camp. Many evenings feature critiques and post-processing instruction after dinner, and during the daytime we offer one-on-one instruction as needed. You'll come away with a wealth of new knowledge not only on how to create great imagery but how best to process those images in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Years of Experience—Happy Repeat Customers: We've been leading, guiding and teaching photographers for a long time—and we have thrilled customers who come back on our workshops again and again to prove it. If you'd like to speak to someone who has been with us on a workshop or safari, just let us know, we'd be happy to arrange a phone call.

Fitness

Easy: You must be able to get in and out of the custom land cruisers, and ride for several hours on possibly bumpy terrain. You must be able to get in and out of the zodiac, and also sit in a photo blind for a couple hours.

Testimonials

“Brilliant! Andy you are a great teacher, you broke it down into simple steps that I could understand. You clearly listened when I said my goal was to be independent and have fun. I began the trip intimidated by the camera and out of my depth, thanks to your clear, concise, "straight talk" you gave me the confidence to use the technology to capture what I saw. ”
