Enjoy the Wild Fjords of Chile on a Sailboat

March 23 – April 5, 2025

The actual dates for this expedition will be finalized in early 2024, so this itinerary may shift by a few days.

The southern Chilean fjords are home to some of the most majestic and wild landscapes imaginable. This expedition-style trip offers unparalleled access to remote glaciers, snowcapped mountains, lush temperate rainforests, and abundant wildlife. Because we are traveling by sailboat, all the action is directly at your fingertips, and you can expect to see daily dolphin escorts, playful sea lions, sea otters, Magellanic penguins, and an abundance of other bird species. You’ll circle the Alberto de Agostini National Park in southern Chile, where you will photograph tidewater glaciers.

You’ll have photography opportunities from the ship all day long. The nights are just becoming dark in this southern part of the world at this time of the year, so there is a chance for colorful light and lengthy dusk and dawn. The days will get shorter as autumn approaches, and there’s a chance for new snow on the mountains.

The ship is equipped with a large salon making it a perfect location to hold our famous image reviews and discuss the local region. You can expect comfortable and calm mirror-like conditions because we will be sheltered for most of the expedition. You will have daily shore landings to explore the stunning landscapes on foot, and the crew will barbecue in fantastic locations. You’ll have the opportunity to caputre images of the ship with it’s new red sails against the landscape.

Itinerary

This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, and other factors.

March 23, 2025: Arrive in Punta Arenas before 4:00 PM. Taxi to Hotel and meet for a group dinner.

March 24, 2025: Breakfast, pack up, and taxi to the airport for a short flight to Porto Williams. Once we land we will taxi to the dock to embark on the Amazone ship. Set sail on our 12-day journey through the Chilean fjords. Once aboard the Amazone, there will be plenty of time to settle into our cabins, followed by safety briefings and an orientation.

March 25 – April 3, 2025: On these days aboard the Amazone, we will search for beautiful landscapes and wildlife. The Alberto de Agostini National Park is the southern tip of the Andes Mountains. The mountains are covered in snow and glaciers at the top and support an evergreen rainforest at their base, which is why it is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. You will explore many fjords on the northern and southern slopes of the Cordillera Darwin mountain range. Throughout our explorations of the fjords, life aboard the Amazone will include three hot meals daily plus snacks and drinks. The decks are open 24/7 unless there is severe weather. The fjords are narrow, so the wind is usually not an issue, making it perfect conditions for photography and exploring in zodiacs. There will be opportunities to photograph the Amazone ship with its beautiful sails out. Photography lessons on camera technique, composition, and post-processing will be available daily.

April 4, 2025: We’ll disembark in Punta Arenas for our final dinner and hotel.

April 5, 2025: Fly home anytime.
