Colorado Peaks and Fall colors

September 27 – 29, 2024

The San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado are some of the most picturesque in North America. The Aspen trees begin turning yellow, gold, and even red in late September. The higher our elevation, the more colors we have in an average year. This makes it a perfect time of year to photograph up in the high peaks. Our workshop will take us into some of the most beautiful areas of the San Juan Mountains, up above the old mining town of Silverton.

Thanks to early mining claims in the area, some roads offer excellent access to high-elevation perches, where we will begin our hikes to capture some beautiful scenes, so being in decent physical condition is necessary. We plan to hike up in altitude, looking for unique vantage points, spectacular vistas, and fall colors to accompany our compositions. We aim to pack a lot of fun and adventure into this excursion to expand your photographic knowledge and hone in on your vision to capture meaningful images.

This small group experience will afford you plenty of 1:1 time with our instructor, one of Colorado’s most accomplished photographers and mountaineers, so rest assured you will come home with some stunning photographs. With time for our hallmark in-depth image reviews, we will learn vital techniques for realizing your vision, including focus-stacking and exposure blending. Whether you hope to capture the expansive grandeur of the Colorado mountains or create intimate interpretations of nature’s smaller details, this workshop will have something for everyone.
